Mission Creek to Whitewater Canyon on the Pacific Crest Trail.
I love this hike!
Miles 6 and half miles.
650 elevation gain.
4 hours which includes time for car transport (parking in two locations)
Moderate for hikers
Difficult for non hikers due to miles and elevation gain. I don't find this as difficult as Lykken Trail or Bump and Grind. It is a longer hike and there are some steep elevation gains but nothing like Lykken or Bump and Grind.
Everyone must be willing to drive. This trip requires a handful of cars in one location and handful of cars in another location.
Mission Creek to Whitewater
Truly beautiful outback nature. One would feel that they are isolated from the Coachella Valley community that just lay beyond eastern hills.
The hike from Mission Creek Stone House (elevation 2450') follows the West Fork Trail with a gradual elevation gain of 500 feet, then going south on PCT (another 100 feet gain) to top of hill (3000' elevation) that looks down on Whitewater Canyon. From there it is all down hill to Whitewater Preserve. We have a few river crossings at the river. On the day of the hike we will find out what the level of the water is. If too high for a safe crossing, we will double back from the 3000 foot hill to Mission Creek parking lot. Length: 6.5 mile one way to Whitewater Preserve Hiking Time: 3/4 hours including lunch on the trail.
Meeting Location:
Whitewater Canyon Preserve
Park where at the Bridge near Loop Canyon Trailhead. Do not park at Whitewater Preserve Ranger Parking area.
You must arrive before. 7:30 am. We will park the cars that we need at that location and then drive to Mission Creek.
The drive from whitewater to mission creek takes about 25 minutes.
